October 2022

15/10/2022   At the moment she is not the cleanest looking boat ever but I suppose that is what should be expected from a six year repair project on an abandoned boat which has been carried out next to a farmer’s field and in the absence of mains power and water.  Well it seems to me that it is time to clean inside and out, remove all the tools except the onboard tool kit and get ready for the move to a sailing club or marina.

There are a few jobs left to do including –

  • Seal round the fore hatch.
  • Re-paint the deck & cockpit non-slip.
  • Boat name
  • Curtains
  • New cockpit cover
  • Spray dodgers
  • VHF antenna connection
  • Eventually replace the foam in upholstery or completely renew.
  • External water filler
  • Trailer number plate
  • Outboard motor for tender & as backup.
  • Mount the echo sounder
  • Flares to buy
  • Leak test fuel & Gas.

Only 4 or 5 of those seem to me to be time consuming things that might need finishing before a launch and I am sure more will emerge as we get nearer to actually venturing out on the water.  If I wait until everything is ready I will never get launched so I intend that the 3 monthly storage invoice I am about to pay should be the last one!

Maybe time for some before & after shots to convince myself that progress has been made.

If only that blue sky had continued.  Not that easy to make progress on re-painting the non-slip when the autumnal weather and short days kick in.  There has also been the minor issue of the younger daughter getting married in early November and me making ten  “lanterns” as table centerpieces.

Congratulations to Jon and Beth.
