So this is my very first blog post about restoring and sailing a fiberglass sailing boat built in 1973 and now named Rathenice.
Although I am by no means qualified or even experienced in any of this boat restoration game, hopefully readers will find inspiration from my personal journey through marine engineering, electrical work, painting, varnishing, upholstery and many other aspects of boat restoration. There will be mistakes which are only discovered once I am sailing so please take anything which is similar to a challenge you face as “How I did it” rather than a proven solution or common practice.
From here everything will be appearing in both directions which will possibly confuse me. I will be putting up new content as I finish the restoration then launch and sail her. The back story will also gradually appear as summaries from the diary which I wrote as I progressed to this stage and as much of her previous history as I manage to discover. If I am not progressing quickly enough for your liking please take a look at my other media attempt on Instagram (#rathenice or #ebaywreck) where you will see a few snapshots. From there you should also be able to identify the family members who follow my posts and find their stories (which usually also include creative contributions by me).
